If you are unhappy with your job, it may be time to start looking for a new career and to go back to school. There are a number of symptoms that you may be experiencing that tell you it is time to make that change. Some of these include:

1) Fatigue and constant numbness. If you come home mentally and physically tired, stop and think. How many times a week do you come home and plop on the couch? How many times does the tv just go on with hours of mind numbing programming just to fill the time frame between sleep and work? How many hobbies are still left undone because you just don’t feel inspired? Would a new career path help you rediscover those things in life you loved before this job?
2) Negativity in your day to day. Do you find yourself being more pessimistic than before? Do little things anger you, or do you become angry quicker than before your present career?
3) A halt in learning. Every day, we are exposed to new or different ideas and philosophies. Sometimes they are so subtle, we just don’t recognize them…but they are there. Have you stopped ‘thinking’ just to make it through the day? When you dream of a new career, how does it inspire you?
4) Limiting social contact. Do you find yourself not socializing as much as you used to? Are conversations much more brief with close friends? Is it easier for you to stay away from everyone instead of socializing? Are you withdrawing from life instead of embracing it? Do you think that a new career might help you get out more?
5) Nothing is good enough. Similar to negativity listed above, do you feel like nothing is good enough or that you are ‘owed’ something? Do you find you are having less and less self satisfaction when you accomplish goals are your present job? How do you think a new career, or going back to school might help you find satisfaction within your day to day?
