Pros and Cons of a Campus Education
Today, those interested in getting a college education have several options available to them. They can attend online courses, engage in other distance learning options, or participate in a campus education. As with all decisions that have to be made, there are pros and cons associated with each.
When it comes to a campus education, one of the biggest pros is the ability to physically interact with other students. Much of the “college experience” involves getting to know people of all walks of life from all over the country. By getting a campus education, you will have the opportunity to do this.
If you are someone that responds well to lectures and that likes to be able to interact with your instructor on a frequent basis, a campus education may be a good choice for you as well. With a campus education, you can sit in the classroom and get help or clarification from your instructor more easily.
Perhaps the biggest con to getting a campus education is the fact that your schedule is quite rigid. With distance education, you are able to study and complete your lessons on your own time, just as long as everything is turned in by the due date. With a campus education, on the other hand, you have to be in classes at a certain time and you are expected to attend every class and remain for the entire class period.
Another con to a campus education is the fact that you are “stuck” in the classroom even after you already understand the concept. With distance education, you can skim through the information that you may already know and you do not have to sit through additional explanations. In this way, you can make more efficient use of your time.
If you are someone that has difficulty monitoring your own progress and time, however, a campus education may be better for you. For some, the rigidity of a campus education helps ensure that they stay on top of their studies and do not fall behind.
With so many pros and cons to getting a campus education, it is important to consider them all carefully in order to find the educational option that is best for you.
