Five New Year Resolutions for New Online College Students

So the New Year is here and you’re planning to go enroll in an online college. Here are a couple of great resolutions you can make to help you do your very best.

1. I Will Organize My Time. If you’re a busy professional, parent, or someone who is constantly on the go, you need to be realistic and set aside some time to work on your assignments. Just as you would keep an appointment at a doctor or dentist’s office, you need to make an appointment with yourself on a regular basis. Set aside a few hours per week or day for your studies.

2. I Will Enjoy Myself. You may be saying “oh, of course I will!” but really, you need to make sure you enter your studies with a positive attitude and have fun with it. Get excited about your online college course! The time you put into your college degree will be paying off with a great future!

3. I Will Organize My Work. Get yourself organized before you start your online college courses, and do your best to stay organized. Know where your files are. Put your notes in a proper filing system or binder. Save your work on your drive. Print off or save important emails. The more organized you are, the less stress you will feel.

4. I Will Be Involved. Believe it or not, a lot of people throw their hands up in the air, give up, and think they simply aren’t “getting it” when faced with hard questions in their courses. Stop yourself from thinking you have to know everything. If you are stuck on a question or an assignment, ask questions! Online college courses are usually lead by great instructors and have good resource materials such as online libraries. Get involved. Get to know the other students in your virtual classrooms. Ask for help when you need it. It’s all part of the online college experience!

5. I Will Earn My Degree! If you are taking an online college course to earn your degree, remember that the work will not complete itself. Every minute you devote to completing your course takes you one step closer to earning your degree. Imagine your career potential as you finish each assignment. Tell yourself you’re doing more than earning a college degree – you’re earning a future.

With just a couple of easy resolutions and a positive attitude, you can make this the year you earn your college degree – and have a lot of fun doing it. Good luck!
