Have You Been Laid Off? Go Back to School!

Unfortunately, the current economic condition has left thousands of people without a job as businesses have been forced to close their doors or to cut back on the number of employees they have on staff. If you are one of those individuals, things are probably looking quite bleak for you as you struggle to make ends meet. But, there is a potential silver lining to this situation – there has never been a better time than now to head back to school and earn your college degree!

Making Better Use of Your Time

Let’s face it, the chances of you getting a job to replace the one you have lost is pretty slim. There are so many people without a job and so few jobs available, that the competition is fierce. In fact, businesses are reporting receiving hundreds of applicants for jobs that were once difficult to fill, such as janitorial positions. So, why waste your time filling out applications for a job you likely won’t get and that won’t pay the bills? The reality is that you will be better off receiving unemployment checks and using this time to head back to school. This way, when the job market does open up again, you will have the education and training it takes to land a good-paying job in a field that interests you.

Taking Advantage of Golden Opportunities

President Barack Obama has made it clear that education is a top priority for him and his administration. Not only has he challenged every American to head back to school in order to help the country be more competitive within our global economy. Even better, President Obama has backed up his words with action and has included many monetary incentives in his latest stimulus package to help those who are interested in heading back to school. So, while this may be a difficult time to find a job, there has never been a better time than now to go back to school.

Preparing for the Future

Another benefit to going back to school is that it will help you be better prepared for future economic downturns. While no one wants to see the economy continue in its slump and while we hope it will never spiral downward again after it does recover, there is always the chance of history repeating itself once more. By going back to school and furthering your education now, you will be less likely to be one of those to be out of a job in the future. After all, if an employer has to choose between an employee who has advanced his or her education and one without an education, the one with the college degree is the one who is most likely to be kept on board. So, do yourself a favor and take advantage of your current situation by preparing for your future.
