President Obama Places Emphasis on the State of Education
In his continued effort to improve the state of the educational system in the United States, President Barack Obama has been pushing for more funding to become available to school systems throughout the country.
Schools throughout the United States have long had difficulty with obtaining enough funding to provide the programming necessary for their students to succeed, but the recent economic troubles have compounded the problem. More specifically, as people around the country find themselves without a job, the tax revenue of state and local governments is also beginning to tighten and schools have seen even fewer dollars coming their way.
To help alleviate this problem, President Obama’s $787 billion economic stimulus plan included $41 billion in grants to be provided to local school districts. In addition, he as announced plans to send $79 billion to fiscal relief to states in order to help prevent cuts in state aid from taking place. In addition, he has pledged to set aside $21 billon to be spent on the modernization of schools.
President Obama isn’t just calling for more money for schools, however, as he is also making a plea for a new generation of teachers to rise up and take over the educational reigns.
“America needs you,” said President Obama. “We need you in our suburbs. We need you in our small towns. We need you in our inner cities. We need you in classrooms all across our country.”
While most are thrilled to see President Obama placing so much emphasis on the educational system, an article from Fox News reports that his critics are concerned that he is spending too much time on other issues when he should be placing more of his efforts on the economy. Regardless, the fact that the President has placed such importance on education bodes well for those who are interested in taking their education to a new level.
