Questions to Ask an Admissions Representative about an Online Education
Many students look forward to the college experience; it’s an opportunity to meet new people and learn new things. It also gives you the chance to get away from home and learn to fend for yourself. But before you pack your bags and buy a futon, you need to conduct some research about your school of choice.
When you meet with an admissions representative, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Remember, this is the place where you live and learn for the next four years. It’s important that you find out as much as possible to determine if your school of interest really is the perfect fit for you.
Here are some suggested questions from The College Board:
• What do students like most about the college? Like least?
• What do students do for fun?
• What is the role of fraternities and sororities on campus? If I didn’t want to join, could I have a satisfactory social life?
• Is there a good balance of academics, social life and extracurricular activities?
• What were the social or cultural highlights last year?
• Is there an alcohol problem and, if so, how is the college handling it? What is the incidence of binge drinking?
• Is there something I should know about housing that would help me in my choice?
• What are the types of food plans? All you can eat? Vegetarian? Kosher?
• Is there a doctor, nurse, psychologist or career counselor on campus? What is the waiting period for appointments?
• Is the office for special services adequate to the demand?
• How good is the security on campus?
• What is the quality of student and faculty relationships? Is the faculty interested in and accessible to students after class? Do faculty members participate in student activities*?
