Take Photographs for a Living

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of photographers is predicted to increase about as fast as the average for other industries through till 2016. There are jobs available in this industry but those who go to school will have the best opportunity, as you will learn all the technical skills needed to take the best possible photo.

There will be an increased demand for portrait photographers as the population increases. After all, families across the nation will always want to capture an image of their family. Portrait photography is not the only field that a photographer can specialize in, though. As magazines continue to publish their stories online, there will be a strong demand for all sorts of photographers – fashion, photo journalism, fine art, architectural, celebrity, travel, and landscape photography, for example.

While you are studying, it is worth offering your services pro-bono to any individuals or companies seeking a photographer. This will be a good chance for you to build up your portfolio and professional experience.

Many photographers are also self-employed. In fact, more than half were self employed in 2006. Not only can you do what you love for a living, but you can also run your own business and hours. You could freelance full or part time, it’s up to you!
