As with anyone who works in the marketing field, a marketing manager is involved with performing market research, developing marketing strategies, creating advertisement plans, developing public relations activities and product development. In order to accomplish this goal, the marketing manager must work closely with subordinates, which may include market research managers and product development managers as well.

By working closely with other managers, marketing managers are able to estimate the demand for a particular good or service while also identifying potential markets. They are also responsible for developing a pricing strategy that will help the firm maximize its profits as well as its market shares while also making certain the customers are pleased with the goods or services provided. In order to accomplish this goal, marketing managers work with other members of the management team and monitor trends while overseeing product development.

It is important to note that the exact duties of a marketing manager can vary significantly depending upon the firm. Factors such as the industry context, the corporate culture and the business size can all have an impact on the marketing manager’s duties.

Earn a Great Income as a Marketing Manager

As might be expected for a position with so much responsibility, marketing managers can earn a very attractive income. In fact, they are among the highest paying mangers within the marketing and advertising field. Whereas the median annual salary for advertising and promotions managers was $73,060 in 2006, the median annual salary for marketing managers was $98,720 during that same year. This is also much better than the median annual salary of public relations managers, who earned $82,180 in 2006, as well as for sales managers, who earned $91,560.

The industry in which you work will also have an impact on how much you earn at a marketing manager. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the median annual salary for marketing managers employed in the computer systems design and related services field was $119,540. Those who were involved with the management of companies and enterprises earned $103,070 while those in the scientific and technical field earned $100,200. Marketing managers who were employed in engineering and architectural fields earned $92,480 while those working within the depository credit intermediation field earned $91,420.
