Why Employers Should Celebrate YOU This Independence Day
Happy birthday, America! On July 4th, we take time to celebrate the birth of our nation. Let’s put some things in perspective: on the 4th of July in 1776, there were only 2.5 million people living in the USA (which is the current population of Brooklyn, NY). Today, about 302 million men, women, and children are crammed into our country. A person born in 1776 could expect to live 35 years, while kids who are born today have a projected lifespan of 80 years. There are more Americans than ever, and we are living longer!
So, why should your boss care about this? Think about it: the longer we live and the healthier we become, the more time we have to make a positive impact on our company. A healthy worker takes less sick time and is generally more productive at the office. In order gain a high retention rate for good workers, the boss needs to keep them happy!
Here are some other reasons why your boss should celebrate his/her employees:
• The science and technology industries are growing faster than ever before. This means that the economy is naturally predisposed to favor people who have higher levels of education. Given the fact that our nation’s students are sorely lagging behind in math and science, companies desperately need people who have a sufficient amount of job training.
• The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there will be a worker shortage of about 10 million people by 2010. Since the Baby Boomers are about to face retirement and exit the workforce, the economy will need more people to fill their spots.
• The current generation of college students and graduates recognize the need to be flexible in their approach to finding entry-level jobs. The recent college graduate demographic is one of the most enthusiastic and energetic type of workers, so employers love to snag recent grads!
For all you job-seekers out there, remember than any employer can consider him/herself lucky to have you! Our readers at Top-Colleges have proven themselves to be smart, capable, and thoughtful workers. So celebrate Independence Day 2009 by getting the education that you need in order to get the job you want!
