The Best Ways to Spend Your Summer Vacation
School is out for summer, and before you know it you’ll be back in the routine of things. So why not make the most of it? The following are some suggestions for a productive and enjoyable summer vacation:
1. Intern
If you want to get ahead in your degree and gain hands on experience in the field that you’re studying, then consider an internship. Internships are generally unpaid but the knowledge you learn from on the job training is invaluable. If you’re studying a vocational program such as plumbing, then why not ask your local plumber if you can spend the summer working? If you want to spend your summer interning, then it is worth applying ahead to companies before the end of semester break. For more information about internships, read here.
2. Spend time with the ones you love
If you attend school in another state then this is even more pertinent to you. Why not spend your summer at home? You’ll get the chance to spend valuable time with your family, as well as seeing all your hometown friends.
3. Catch up on the latest films
Your schedule at school is probably filled with studying and extra-curricular activities. Take the time out now to catch up on all the latest summer blockbuster films. If you are studying film, then have a look at the latest technology on offer and be inspired.
4. Read
Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean that you should stop reading. Read for pleasure and keep your mind stimulated.
5. Go to the beach
The sun is out! Why not cool yourself off at the beach? If you’re really adventurous, you could find a temporary lease at an apartment near the beach and spend your summer working and swimming.
6. Work
As above, and while this may not be the most attractive vacation option, think about it in the long run. If you work and save money during your summer, you won’t need to work as much during the semester and will be able to focus on your schoolwork more.
7. Attend summer school
Going to summer school will allow you to finish your degree earlier than predicted. As well as this, summer classes can be cheaper than regular classes throughout the semester.
8. Enroll in something fun
Learn a new skill! Enroll in an art class, do pottery, learn how to knit – take the time out to do something you’ve always been curious about.
9. Lose the Freshman 15
You may have gained a little extra padding from your first year at college. It can be difficult to maintain a healthy and balanced diet when you’re away from home and going through so many new experiences. Go to the gym, go for a run, cycle around the block – spend this time trying to lose those unwanted pounds.
10. Relax
You work hard during the semester until summer comes. This is your downtime, so put your feet up and give your body a rest. Before you know it you’ll be back into the college grind, so enjoy being lazy while you can.
