What’s Online Learning Like?
Do you think that online education just involves staring at a boring computer screen? Think again! Online learning can actually be fun and engaging. There are actually lots of opportunities to interact with your fellow students and faculty in an online classroom.
Through video, text, audio, and other forms of media, e-learning can be pretty interactive. Since your virtual classroom is the Internet, online students have a wide range of educational possibilities. You can interact with your fellow classmates through live video feeds, chat rooms, bulletin boards, and emails. Online learning is far from stifling since you have a variety of virtual resources at your fingertips!
Let’s first define what it means to learn online. Online colleges give you the same opportunities to learn as a regular university, except that they offer a lot more flexibility. Students can decide when and where they want to study, and generally have as much time as they need to complete a course.
When you sign up for an online class, you will receive the web address (or “URL”) for your course homepage, which becomes your virtual classroom. From this URL, you will be able to receive instructions, assignments, and chat with your fellow students. Just like a regular school, you will be taking the course with other students, but you can choose the time (day or night!) that you can get online. Although the courses are all based on the web, you can also get concrete materials like books, course manuals, video tapes, and CDs, which serve to supplement your online learning. Like being a student at a ground campus, you will have to submit papers, tests, and other assignments to your virtual instructor.
One of the best aspects of being an online student is having the opportunity to personalize your learning. Since you’re not confined to a classroom or lecture hall, you have the opportunity to fast-forward, pause, or re-play any e-discussions. Thanks to technology, students are able to concentrate on subjects that interest them, rather than enduring conversations that aren’t relevant to their passions.
So, what do you lose by attending an online college?
A) Driving to class
B) Obtaining a parking permit
C) Scheduling a job around your class-time.
Thanks to the power of email, you have the exact same resources as “ground” students. All you need to get started is an internet connection and an eagerness to learn beyond the classroom.
Online education is the future of learning!
