What is an MBA?

An MBA, or Master of Business Administration, is a specialized master’s degree that focuses on the area of business administration. Although the concept of the MBA was first developed in the United States, this type of degree has since gained worldwide attention and is held in high esteem in the world of business. As such, individuals who earn an MBA are prepared to pursue a career in a variety of professional occupations within the business world as well as within colleges and universities.

How Can I Pursue an MBA?

Individuals who are interested in pursuing an MBA have a variety of options available to them. Not only can this degree be earned on a part-time of full-time schedule, it can also be pursued at ground colleges as well as through distance learning institutions. Therefore, individuals who are interested in pursuing an MBA can easily select a program and institution that suits their schedule and needs.

In general, there are three different types of MBA programs a person may pursue. These include:

· Two Year MBA – this program takes two academic years to complete, which comes down to about 18 months of time. Classes within this type of program occur during the weekday, just as with the classes being offered to all other university students
· Accelerated MBA – accelerated MBA programs are a variation of two-year programs that are designed to be completed in less than two years. In order to make this possible, however, students must take a larger course load and take shorter breaks between semesters.
· Part-Time MBA – part-time MBA programs generally offer classes during the weekend or in the evenings in order to work around the students’ work schedule. These programs generally take two to three years to complete because the students take a lighter course load.
· Executive MBA (EMBA) – these programs are designed to work with students who are already in managerial or executive positions who are interested in earning the degree. Students generally complete the program in two years while continuing to work on a full-time basis. Individuals participating in these programs generally have a high amount of work experience, with many having been employed in a managerial business position for 10 years or more.
