Last Minute Things to Do Before the New School Year Starts

So, the new school year is only a matter of a few weeks away, are you sure you are ready for it to begin? Whether it is your first year back in college or your twelfth, the start of a new school year always conjures up a variety of emotions ranging from excitement all the way to dread. Regardless of how you are feeling about the new school year, however, you will be happy to know that there are a few things you can do to help get your new school year off to a great start – and it all boils down to being prepared. By doing these last minute things before the new school year starts, you will be sure to be rip, roarin’ and ready to go on that first day.

Get Your Supplies

No matter how well prepared you think you are, you will always need to get more supplies after your first day of classes. Inevitably, your professor will tell you about a certain project you need to complete or other assignments that will require extra supplies. Still, if you go out and purchase the basics right now, you will be sure to get through that first day without a problem. In addition, back to school supplies are really cheap right now, which means it will cost you less to stock up now than it will cost to make your purchases once the school year starts. Some basis you should have for the first day include:

· Pencils
· Pencil lead if using mechanical pencils
· Pens – a few of two different colors
· Highlighters
· At least one folder for each class
· At least one spiral notebook for each class

If you are taking certain specialized classes, there may be additional materials you will want to have on hand to meet the needs of those classes as well.

Purchase Your Books

If you haven’t bought your books already, now is the time to do it. The longer you wait, the more likely you will have to pay full price for new books rather than enjoying a discounted price on used books. Don’t forget to check out online places such as Amazon and eBay for your books. These sources are often less expensive than the campus bookstore.

Create a Schedule

If you plan to work while going to college or if you have a family, it is time for you to create a schedule. By now, you should know when your classes will be meeting. So, if your employer is willing to work around your schedule, be sure to give him or her a copy of your class schedule so there won’t be any conflicts with work. In addition, take some time to sit down with your family in order to discuss your schedule and to carve out blocks of school time during which you can study and complete projects without being disturbed at home.

Update Your Technology

If you plan on doing most of your class assignments from home, make sure your technology is up-to-date. If you will need to use specific types of software for your class, it is better to install it now while you have a little more free time than to wait until class starts. The last thing you want is to be stumbling through a software download the night before a big project is due.

Aren’t signed up for classes yet? No problem! Many schools are still accepting new students. Visit the Top Colleges home page to learn more about a variety of different online and ground campus as well as the degree programs they have to offer.
