“Entourage” Goes Back to School
That’s right – Hollywood isn’t all glitz and glam, some of its stars are choosing to go back to school to pursue their dream career. Well, that’s what is happening on the latest series of HBO’s hit TV drama, Entourage. The character in question is Turtle, the stocky, sneaker-loving, hat-wearing member of the team of four guys – Vince, Johnny Drama and Eric (E).
Turtle wants to pursue his own business venture, but first he needs to go back to school to learn the proper business skills to become an entrepreneur. No longer is he satisfied to ride the coattails of Vince’s success as a big-time Hollywood actor. With Vince around, Turtle needn’t worry about earning an income. He has come to realize though that he needs to do something for himself, something where he can earn his own dollar and feel pride in his work.
He originally approached Vince’s agent, Ari Gold, to ask him to put him in touch with people who may be interested in investing money into his business idea. Ari refuses though, on the basis that Turtle has no real business plan or skills that make him a viable investment. “Do you know what it takes to make something of yourself?” asked Ari. “Do you have a business plan? What do you project to earn? What do you need to break even?” Indeed, these are all vital questions that any person considering branching out into their own business must consider.
And so, with that reality check and wake up call, Turtle decides that the only way he will learn these business smarts is to go back to college. So, on his 30th birthday he decides to enroll in business management classes at UCLA Extension. The team is very supportive and impressed with Turtle’s initiative to go back to college, and Drama even offers to foot the tuition bill.
So Top-Colleges readers and HBO viewers alike – take inspiration from Turtle’s leap into the academic world, and consider doing yourself the same favor. If there’s a career you want to chase, then what better way to get started than by earning a degree in your field of choice? You will enter the working world with a solid academic background behind you, which will serve you well as you start to pick up real-life working skills.
