Obama, LeBron, and Clarkson Are America’s Education All-Stars
President Obama is teaming up with NBA superstar LeBron James and singing sensation Kelly Clarkson for the back-to-school event called Get Schooled: It’s Your Right.
This trifecta of internationally known superstars will appear together in a 30 minute documentary that preaches the importance of education at all ages, elementary to collegiate. This program, backed by the Bill and Melina Gates Foundation can be viewed on more than 20 cable television networks including MTV, Comedy Central, and BET. The speakers will talk about the significance of not only having a dream, but also having a plan to get to that dream.
President Obama, at one point during the program, states, “So as this new school year begins, I urge you to set goals for your own education: To study hard and get involved in your school, to try new things and find something you’re passionate about. And that’s how our nation will get ahead — by ensuring that every American gets a world-class education, from preschool to college to a career.”
This campaign has been the brain child of Bill and Melinda Gates who have been on a crusade to bring America’s once venerable school system back to the top of the mountain. As a five year endeavor, the Gates’ hope to design a new infrastructure to help high school and college graduation rates skyrocket from the dismal numbers they are currently at.
Teachers are needed to make these schools more productive learning centers and environments where students can learn the value of education. Funding is necessary in order to give every student the best possible shot at getting ahead. Parents need to be engaged in the lives of their children in order to make this a team effort in these times of great temptation to step off the path. These areas are what Obama, James, and Clarkson plan on speaking on, and they are the areas that America’s schools are counting on to be back at an elite level.
