Electric Car Good for both the Environment and Economy
Ford Motor Company has made definitive strides in overhauling their primary focus. Set to release their electric car in 2010, the company is looking to decrease dependency on SUV and trucks and concentrate on energy efficient vehicles. The company estimates that in ten years electric and hybrid vehicles will dominate their production lineup. The landscape could not be any more suitable for the release. Increasing worries about carbon emissions and fossil fuels mean that electric vehicles would be revolutionary. Government grants have also been introduced to encourage production. The introduction of a new vehicle would also lead to many new jobs in various sectors.
Along with its’ partners Ford proposes to release 740 vehicles, serving 55 million customers in four different sectors; small cars, small sports vehicles, small business vans and large vans. Students in the automotive industry or those with trades such as electricians, technicians and mechanics could benefit from this development. The introduction of a new electric vehicle based market means that a new network of skilled labor would need to be established and new equipment would be necessary. In order to implement these plans Ford is benefitting from government grants.

According to the Wall Street Journal: “Ford was awarded $30 million under a $400 million grant program set up to support the development of an electric-vehicle market through technology demonstration and education projects.” Ford applied for U.S. Department of Energy for funding and support to build and test the accompanying infrastructure. The size of this project is dependent on the grant funding and Ford is now working with the Department of Energy in utilizing the grant and designing their project.
