9 to 5 Not For You? Not a Problem
For many students enjoying the laidback routine of college a traditional 9 to 5 office job seems more like a prison sentence than a career. More and more students are being turned off by the corporate world. As large companies are shutting down the traditional office job is no longer a secure or easily attainable option. Furthermore, popular culture has personified the office desk or cubicle as the ultimate beacon of the mundane.
While for some a job in an office means stability others see it as stifling. These jobs can offer personal fulfillment with financial prospects outside of the office:
Apart from the relaxation benefits, Masseuses, or massage therapists are they are more commonly called, treat painful ailments, reduce stress, rehabilitate sports injuries, and holistically promote good health. The important of massage in the treatment of injuries is being increasingly emphasized. Massage therapists can work in hospitals, spas, salons, the offices of physicians and chiropractors, fitness and recreational sports centers and hotels. Many can also be self employed.
Massage therapists generally work part time. They can divide their hours between many different settings; individual clients and hospitals or spas.
Massage Therapists are expected to have a license. There are several different types of massage and so to specialize; one must have to pursue a specific qualification. Although it is not required in every state a certificate from the U.S. the National Certification Board of Massage Therapy is highly regarded.
Employment for massage therapists is expected to increase faster than average over the period from 2006 to 2014 as more people experience the benefits of massage therapy. Many states regulate massage therapy and those individuals who complete formal training programs and pass the national certification exam are likely to have very good job opportunities for many years to come.
In our increasingly health and image conscious society personal trainers are adopting pseudo-celebrity status. When successful, personal trainers are generally well sought after and can be quite exclusive with their services. Personal trainers can work in a variety of different areas from gyms, health clubs, hospitals and people’s homes. They are involved in designing and implanting fitness plans for their clients, providing knowledge, motivation and lifestyle suggestions when needed. In gyms or health clubs personal trainers both work with clients individually and in groups. When they have no clients they are often kept on hand as consultants.
Due to the variety of job opportunities personal trainer’s working hours are variable. As most gyms and health clubs open at night and on at the weekend personal trainers would be required to be available during these times. Trainers also work around their client’s schedules. Few personal trainers work solely with individual clients but those employed by gyms, health clubs and hospitals can often supplement income with freelance work. Personal trainers can often be self employed.
For personal trainers certification is crucial. They must have a certification and if they want to specialize in one area they must pursue further qualifications. Many organizations require candidates to have a high school diploma, be certified in CPR and pass an exam that measures knowledge of human physiology and proper exercise techniques.A Bachelor’s degree in sports, physical education or exercise is usually required if personal trainers want to advance to a management or head trainer position. Employment of fitness workers is expected to increase 27 percent over the 2006-2016 decade, this is much faster than the average; the reason for this growth if the increasing emphasis and awareness on health and image.
Teachers are a fundamental asset of every community. Responsible for the social and intellectual development of children, the demand for teachers will be continuous. From the initial stages of learning through to higher education teachers impart knowledge and teach skills that will assist a child’s future and career.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics: “The education that teachers impart plays a key role in determining the future prospects of their students. Whether in preschools or high schools or in private or public schools, teachers provide the tools and the environment for their students to develop into responsible adults.”
Depending on the level, teacher’s schedules can be quite flexible. High school teachers and college professors would generally have a more variable timetable than a kindergarten or elementary school teacher. Teachers also benefit from a relatively shorter working day than office workers and they also receive considerable holiday time. Teachers work with students from varied ethic and cultural backgrounds, some teach a variety of subjects and their work is always stimulating and challenging.
To qualify as a teacher, a Bachelor’s degree is needed up to high school level. For college professors a Masters degree and involvement in academia is generally expected. Teachers also need to obtain a teaching license; this varies by state, level and subject. Employment for teachers is set to grow 12% by 2016. Teachers are represented by unions and generally receive adequate benefits.
