The House of Representatives Approves Health Care Reform
November 2009 – Can President Obama’s new healthcare reform bill get you hired?
President Obama’s health care reforms have just experienced a huge triumph on Sunday. The House of Representatives narrowly passed his health care bill by a 220-215 vote. While it’s still up in the air as to whether the Senate will follow suit, this is a huge defining moment for the President and his supporters. Are you happy that the act has passed in the House?
The House of Representatives passed the Affordable Health Care for America Act, or H.R. 3962, which prevents insurance companies to denying coverage to anyone with a pre-existing condition. It also prevents these companies from charging higher premiums based on gender or medical history and provides federal subsidies to those who cannot afford health insurance. Most importantly, it guarantees coverage for 96 percent of Americans, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
If the President’s healthcare reforms pass in the Senate, it could increase the number of career options that are available. For one thing, it could dramatically reduce barriers to entrepreneurship and people opening up their own businesses. Universal health care could also make it easier for people to leave jobs that they are keeping solely for their health benefits. In general, this could be a good thing for the economy. Workers who stay with their employers merely to receive health benefits are not as happy, motivated, and productive.
If you’re an older worker, these reforms have the potential to be particularly beneficial for you. Many employers are wary of hiring older employees because of the rising costs of healthcare. If the healthcare reforms are passed, these concerns would be taken off the table. Older workers also tend to accept lower pay in return for higher health benefits. Employees who choose to stay with a company solely for health benefits are not as happy, productive, and motivated.
In addition, the President promises that his reforms will reduce the expense of benefits for small businesses. Here are the facts: last year, fewer than half of businesses with between three and nine employees were offered health benefits, compared with 99 percent of businesses with 200 or more workers, the Kaiser Family Foundation.
Small businesses are certainly at a disadvantage, as far as health care is concerned. According to the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, they pay as much as 18 percent more than larger firms for the exact same health policy. Employees at smaller businesses also tend to pay higher deductibles for smaller benefits.
This sounds great in theory, but will there be any economic disadvantages to President Obama’s health care plan? Opponents of the plan say that payroll taxes, which will be used to pay for the mandated healthcare coverage, could be prohibitively expensive for small businesses. Republicans say that the $1.2 trillion legislation would potentially add to the country’s skyrocketing debt.
Let us know what you think! Do you believe that the President’s health care reforms can stimulate the economy and give Americans more job opportunities?

I strongly support the universal health insurance.
Health Care in this country has gotten to expensive and we have a few Dr’s getting rich and the lawyers getting rich with malpriactice suits. Drs are forced to prescribe tests xrays MRIs and other unnecessary tests to protect themselves against suits. Insurance costs are out of reach for families not getting coverage from their employers. We need this legeslation.
i strongly support the idea. it must be passed. from Ghana
I also strongly support President Obama’s universal health insurance which had just being passed
It will turn out bad for the country if this becomes law. Small business will suffer the most and they create 70 per cent of new jobs. The people that believe like Michael Moore that even Cuba has a better health care system than we do are going to get what they ask for if this becomes law. Our taxes will skyrocket and when there is no money the government will cut back on healthcare services just like France, England and Canada. I don`t understand how Americans seem to have given up on themselves and turned into a nation that belives in the power of government to solve all the problems we face. The socialist minded hate to admit they are socialist, if this bill passes and becomes law it will be to late to do anything about it. I hope calmer heads in Washington do what is best for the American people not vote for more government intrusion on our way of life.
I support the heallthcare reform bill because there are to many people without health insurance, I am one of them.
the rich is the only ones that afford it, so they don’t care, this is George W Bush fault, and no one is blaming him. So I support this healthcare reform 100%.
The government is already in everyone business, so why not take care of what they broke, as in you made your bed now lay in it. The rich people with insurance is the one crying about it.
This bill is too EXPENSIVE. Why not fix what is wrong with Health Care Today than spending UNTOLD amounts that will put this Country deeper in Debt. This Govt. Takeover is just another way to get The New Socialist Republic going in this country, and it STINKS!
I think it is a good move by the President to improve health choices, the doctors and hospitals are charging unreal prices. I am glad someone like the President is concerned about someone else. If the doctors and hospital was not so greedy they would support the health reform. Greed and selfishness is why they have a problem with the health reform. Everyone should have health care, not just the rich. shame on all those republicans.
I fully support the Health Care Reform.
The majority of Americans have been able to seek the truth and discount the lies concerning the Health Care Reform because we are intelligent. That is why we voted in a wonderful President who is succeeding at achieving our goals. Everyone will win when the Public Option is available, except the drug and private insurance profiteers. Up till now, they have run the show, charging high premiums and covering little.
As an unemployed, middle aged woman with a pre-existing condition, (I had operable cancer and am now cancer free), I am not insured. I lost my job and insurance when the cancer was diagnosed. I am now healthy and very employable. I look forward to preventative care and procedures, at minimal cost. Without the Public Option, without insurance, I could have developed more diseases that send me to the ER for costly treatment at the taxpayor’s expense. My life and the impact of my life on my community will improve 100%. I thank the United States citizen’s for taking action.
I am overjoiyed for the passage of the Health Reform of our Pt.I do believe that he deserves all the support as he is a very hard working president. I know that this health reform will bennefit the one who otherwise, is out of luck. I tried all in my power to support Pt Obama as I strongly believe he is for the people of this nation. I do have a sick husband at home, but in spite of not attending those meetings in his favor, I do use this media to pass the good news , Well done Pt. Obama.
This country is in debt over it’s head now the next 10 generations of our childern will be paying on this and may never get it paid off. One thing that has to be done is get rid of all the moochers that are coming into this country we are paying the hospital bills for their baby anchors and living expenses here in this country with welfare and Gov taxes that citizens pay into the Gov. I was in a grocery store the other day and here and a family of not of this country came up to the check out with three full carts of grocerys and when they got up to pay out the bill sure enough out comes the good old USA EBIT card , this makes me sick we fought wars all over the world to keep our country from being oppressed by other nations and now all we do is let them in and give them 3 hots and a cot and a roof over there heads and most of the time they live two and three familys to a house or apartment. In my book this country needs to close our gates and kick all illegals out anchors and all no exceptions. If this country don’t do something soon we will go under or unemployment is now at 10and1/2 percent and has lost 190,000 jobs and still we let more and more people in to this country where and when will the USA stop and take care of their own Think about it all the small companys will close if the health bill passes.
It is abouit time America finally have a President once again who believes in taking care of home first, rather then spending are money in other countries first. This Universal health plan is god sent, this plan could possibly start a trend for people who always wanted to start their own business like myself. The Universal health plan will also help those individuals who can’t afford health insurance. Mr. President as long as you continue being a good stewart are country will trully be bless.
I live in a county with a population of about 130,000. This year, the property owners of this county are having thirteen million dollars added to their property tax bill, or about 100 dollars per capita. this money is going to the local hospital to compensate them for indigent care. one hundred dollars multiplied by the population of the country is 30 billion per year, or 300 billion in ten years, that we will not have to pay to hospitals because all will be insured. so, as you can see, the cost of the legislation will not be as much mas the party of no is claiming.
I pray that the senate does not go along with this bill. I do not want this country become a socialist one
Bill Fuccillo
I fully support the healthcare reforme,it is a good move by the president to emprove health choices.
There are to many people without health insurence.i am one of them !Healthcare in this country has gotten to expensive.we need this legislation.

The more deaths, the more the chances of loosing your future heroes. The Republicans should ”Trust in God” sincerely once more,to save lives and save America forever.Everybody has right-to-life and health is very paramount in human life.President Obama’s idea will create room for putting the right people in the right jobs ,not discriminating because of health issues, age and colour among other inhuman practices. It will also increase the economy’s productivity and bridge the gulf between the rich and the poor in terms of unnatural death rate due to some preventible health conditions. The legislation is superb.
Nothing about this healthcare bill works for the betterment of our country. I pray it does not pass lest we go down the road Britain has gone down with their healthcare. Beth
Unbelieveable! Some of you people need to wake up and smell the coffee. First of all, healthcare is not a right but a privilege. This country, from its foundation, is a country of opportunity. Everyone has an opportunity to get out and work to better themselves and provide for themselves and their families. This attitude that the government should give me everything I need but am not willing to work for for myself is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t mind helping those who will help themselves but providing for those who want to have everything provided for them is something else. Furthermore, it is unaffordable. It will not create jobs but will drive unemployment through the roof. Small businesses can not afford to provide healthcare coverage as this legislation requires so they will be forced to cut employees and many will have to completely shut down. And where does everyone think the government is going to get the funds needed to accomplish all this? Taxes will skyrocket. I can’t understand people wanting the same government responsible for the social security system, medicare/medicaid, welfare, etc. to be in charge of healthcare. Folks need to start reading and thinking for themselves. Just use a little common sense about things. Most importantly, stop believing most anything the president says. Look at everything going on. GM, the financial industry, insurance and the list goes on where the government is slowly but surely getting their hand in everything that drives our economy to the point that it will begin to control all of that and more. Then you wake up one morning and you no longer are living in the freedom that has made this nation great. Bottom line is we had better get back to GOD as a nation. OK, the coffee is on.
If this Obamacare measure clears the Senate, defying the public’s wishes, it will spell the beginning of the end of these United States as we know it. Physicians, nurses and other health care workers will become government employees, their salaries decided on by an all-powerful oligarchy. Their incentive to work would be dashed; few would want to enter this field, that would be rife with hard work and little else. So rationing of health care would soon be imposed, as in places like England and Canada.
Despite Obama’s denial, private health care insurers would become as rare as unicorns.
The government would decide who gets what treatment (read: that which is the most cost-effective) and when and if. All others — sorry about that the rest of you, thank you and goodbye. Government control of heath care would = government control of all aspects of our lives. Work would be supplanted by going-through-the- motions “malaise.” Taxes would zoom, along with inflation.
Hello Jimmy Carter…permanently.
Look and Listen! What is going to happen to One Nation, Under God, with Liberty and Justice for All? If you want to live in a Socialist Country please move to one. Yes, Wake up and smell the coffee. Stop thinking Republican and Democrat and think for yourself and the consquenses of all this change. Obama is full of deception and is obiviously a better salesmen than a President.
A small business owner who stated he has always provided health insurance to his employees will have an 18% increase and his employees co-pays will go from $25/mo. to $40/mo. Other businesses will not be able to afford health insurance and if forced to provide it will “close their doors.” The amendment preventing federal funds for abortions will provide an even greater burden on the poor since they will probably have to return to “butchers” to get them or if they have the child, it will be added to our overburdened welfare rolls.
If the so-called public option passes, it will mean bigger government with people pushing paper, insurance companies profiting at everyone else’s expenses…etc. When Congress wants to provide the same health care they enjoy, then let us see what they will give to the tax paying public. People are unemployed in massive numbers and yet are still suppose to pay for the “public health care?” How?
This bill is a major pit and will harm our country more than most can even comprehend. It is too expensive and those who are in favor of it do not realize that they are probably going to be the ones losing their job because the business they work for can’t afford the health care being dictated by our government. I do not support this bill and I am not a rich person, I believe in equality for all not just a select group of people…I am sure you know what I am saying.
The nationalizing of healthcare will be a complete disaster – both financially and providing services! In every single place it has been installed (Great Britain, Canada, Massachusetts, etc. and even going back to Germany, Russia etc. by the socialist/marxist of that era…it has never worked. Government has a 100% track record of failure in every thing it has ever run! Why would healthcare (our most valuable matter in our lives) be any different than all the other government run take-overs that have NEVER worked? And what about the huge cuts in Medicare and Medicad? Whoi is going to suffer trhere? Just check with the edlderly in the places that now have government-run healthcare. It is a disaster. If a person needs a hip or knee replacement or an expensive heart by-pass etc. there is a formula that is used that takes in the life expectancy of the individual against the costs involved. That is why such procedures are NOT done to persons up in their 60s, 70s and 80s. Don’t believe it? Check with Canada. As the old manager of the Yankees would say “Go check it out.”
Reform yes – but do it right the first time. Do you have to be a U.S. Citizen to receive heath care benefits? Who will pay for it???
I am anxious to learn about your claims and take advantage of them is they are honest.
I do not agree that this passing is going to be a great success for the health care for the Americans. Most of the unisured are already using, if available the insurance that is state provided. That is already costing us and increasing everyones taxes. By the time this is enforcee, all small business owners will close shop and leave because they cannot afford to ensure everyone or you just can’t afford to pay for the insurance with the cost of food and other living expenses. Our children and thier children will keep paying for our’s and our parents mistakes.
Something has to be done I agree but can you imagine going to the hospital and having to wait for hours with a broken arm because of your insurance plan. It is already happening in California. Now this will have all over the United States.
Goverment should stay out of my health care !!! We have enoff laws and provisions, all they have to do is enfotce them and keep there gready BIG hands out of it ! If they want heath care as they are proposeing let them have it ALSO, if it’s so good!!! To much government control, get back to the old way of doing things. LET THE PEOPLE HAVE SOME SAY and not all up to the poloticions!!!!!!!!!!!
Just ask any veteran about government-run health care (as in the Veterans Administration and VA Hospitals, for those of you [see above] not intelligent enough to figure it out)–the waste, the bureaucratic nightmare, the apathy and lack of caring by the care givers.
Keep drinking that Kool-Aid, nitwits. You’ll get exactly what you deserve. Bad thing is, so will the rest of us.
The health care plan has very very little to do with health care. How does it help all Americans by giving billions to the over paid unions and starting up 115 new offices in the Federal Government, then filling them with a bunch of Obama Leftest, who wil continue to erode the greatest country in the world. Talk is cheepe if it is souch a great thing for the Obama administration, then why did he have to buy votes and make promases he has no intention of keeping???????????.
Good luck to those who think your going to get a public option. The Senate has yet to vote. However, if they are crazy enough to sink our country further into debt, when our economic output and unemployment is as bad as it has ever been in the history of modern nation, then I recommend that the first to get the public option should be the President, and Congres. Everyone talks about rich people, but what about this elitest group. Do you really think they will give up their upscale medical plan to join the public option. I am a self employed business person. I make a living, about 130k a year. I work days, nights and weekends, so eventually I can pass the equity in my business on to my children. I have a hard time higher anyone during these economic times without any tax incentives. Small business will put people to work and for a longer period of time, not Obama and co. stimulus jobs for seasonal construction workers. It’s time to vote for term limits in the Senate and House of Representatives. The problem with Washington is that these individuals are paid too much, given far too many benefits and are usally exempt from everything. Why should we give them 401k plans and pensions. Why not let them take their salaries and do this on their own retirement planning like I have to do. Speaking of salaries, why do we pay them so much. The U.S. has enough well minded business people and retirees that would be honored to serve in Washington on a gratis basis. Kick all of them out of Washington. I’m sick and tired of Republicans and Democrats. These two parties have found more ways to make our country decisive. It time to elect people who listen to the people. Revolt!! Stop sending Washington your tax money. Eventually they have to listen, if enough people join in.
Being a physician, I can definitely tell you this bill will be a disaster for America’s health care.
First of all, just look at Massachusetts’ health care program. Severely lacking and in the red. Even Ted Kennedy went out of state to be treated.
If this program is so great why are the 535 members opting out of it?
Adding 50 million people to the system will immediately impact the system by increasing time waiting and reducing medical care quality.
More and more people will go to the doctor’s office just because they have insurance, inundating the offices and overwhelming his ability to give good care.
The reimbursement to physicians will follow the already reducing payments to this point. Doctors will opt out of the system. Doctor’s are essentially a small business, and he or she has an overhead, and if his reimbursements are lower than the charges necessary to keep his doors open, then who would fault his turning those patients away. Medicare MDs are doing this now.
But, “all doctors are rich”, right? No, folks, family practice MDs average $90,000-$125,000 if they are lucky. As an orthopedic surgeon, my payments for the most prevalent surgery I do, have been reduced by 2/3 over the last 10 years. What other profession has received this? Attorneys, congressmen, appointees, czars? No, their salaries have risen.
Now, what about the illegal immigrants. They receive free medical care now. They are 15 million of the 48 million they tell us that are uninsured.
There is another 15M who choose just not to purchase insurance.
That leaves 18M who don’t have insurance.
Doesn’t it make more sense and make it one heck of a lot more cheaper to buy the insurance for these 18M folks and just call it a day?
Government can’t even run their own bank at the Capital or successfully keep their cafeteria in the black.
Medicare is in shambles (and they want to remove $400B from it in this bill), Medicaid is broke, SS is in trouble, cash for clunkers and tax breaks for first time home buyers lost money, etc. What makes you all think the government can effectively run health care, 1/6th of our economy?
They can’t, they won’t, and America will be stuck holding an empty bag once again, but the 535 members who forced this program will NOT BE AFFECTED!! REMEMBER THIS!
I like having control of my own health care. Obama’s health care program takes that away, I don’t want his program. I like picking my doctor. I like seeing them quickly and getting quick results. If I wanted a “Kaiser” program, I’d sign up for Kaiser- BUT everyone I know who has ever had Kaiser, HATES IT. WHY is the government taking over my health care? They’ve taken over the auto industry, finance industry and education, and we see how well that has worked out for everyone. If you think that health care is expensive now, JUST WAIT until it’s free. Those of us that work and pay taxes, will get to pay for all the freeloaders that don’t do squat- and expect everything handed to them for free. Illegals, come on in- we’ll take care of you too!
I forgot to mention, Obama wants to over burden people that make more then ” 150 and 200 thousand a year, How much of the 90 million + dollars is Nancy P. going to be made to give. I will bet she comes out keeping all of it and probibly a lot more now that she is going to have a trillion dollars to draw from. Make no mistake the fat cat left, is going to get theres first.
Congress are our employees, I think we should save ourselves some money and FORCE them onto the public option if it passes!
I think that it should be passed!!!! Because the hospital’s are short staffed and their needs to be more doctors in the trained specialist field in the Tyler, are and they need to use the money towards things that are more important than feeding their wallets and do right by the people.
THis is a really bad thing.
THe country was founded that the need of the maney over the few. You have the right to live and do what ever you want. With this bill we will be giving tht all away. In this bill they will tax thoes that have helth car. They will have thr right to decide wether you keep you personay helth car or put you on the goverments. As for jobs. Small bussiness is the largest employer in the us. But if you tax them like this bill purposes they wont be able to survive. We all should have the right to make a billion dollers and the same right to starve to deth in the street. It isnt the goverments job to limite us on eather end. THe USSR tried that and they colapesed. Dont change us into the USSA. It is also time for us americans to understand that when we talk about the government we are talking about ourselves. Also the federal goverment is there to help the states to get along but not to govern the states. Each state is independant and self governing. It is time to take our country back and make it the home of the free insted of the worlds dore mat to suck dry.
I can see both sides. There have been many other laws passed that have been passed in this country that did not do well; but I do not hear any complaints. If the American people look to blame the government for everything that goes wrong then why have a government. Companies have taken advantage of government policies, laws, etc. Thinking of their wealth and how much wealthier they can get. FDA is it government or private industry? The Phamecudical Industry does not care about the People; only wealth. Insurance companies only care about wealth. This great country has lived up to it’s name “Land of the FREE and they forgot to mention Opportunity”. So my point is Former President Bush basically did what he wanted when he was in office and he may have done some good, but more harm to our country than any other in the past few decades. So if this law passes maybe this will be the start of getting this nation back on the right track or maybe not, but lets give it a chance, we had no choice either when the republican held office. Nothing is Flawless. At least President Obama is considering all of the American People. In case anyone has forgotten America still has poor people who are not immigrants.
This health care program is a sham, the same plan is now in th UK and people over there sometimes have to wait several months to see a Dr and some I’m sure die before they are able to get medical attention. I knew the first time I heard Obama proposing this plan that it would pass, I belive it’s got to go through the senate, and iff I were a betting man I would give odds on it passing.
Our goverment has sold us out to special intrest groups, they don’t represent the people anymore. When the bail out plan issue was being debated our crongress an senators were told that if they didn’t pass this plan that Martial Law would be enacted on the USA,, it was blackmail, to get the bill through. And the money paid to bankers and brokers rewarded a bunch of pieople for doing a lousy job..
This country is going bankrupt by the administration in power at this time,. God help our country.
I hope that this will help create a shift in my unemployment status. I am a health care professional with no health insurance. Fortunately, my knowledge base helps keep me healthy. I am unemployed with lots of skills that could be utilized coupled with my compassion and desire to continue to impact the lives of women as a nurse practitioner.
I returned to school to get a Master’s and hopes this will get my foot in the door. I want to work.
The healthcare bill is ultimatly going to negatively affect the hiring of individuals regardless of their qualifications because the costs associated with hireing and retaining workers will exceed the value of retaining them in the first place. I believe this is a chief reason why companies are simply not hiring, They don’t know what is on the horizon in terms of the cost of doing business. I believe it is not the place of employers to provide healthcare insurance to its workers anyway. It is not germain to the purpose for which the company was formed in the first place. It has been suggested that the income tax be suspended until the economy of this country shows definite signs of recovery. I agree! I believe the government should provide tax incentives to businesses to hire workers until the economy improves to consistant stability. I believe our current economic situation is the fault of the government in the first place. The govenment should refrain from “stimulating” the country and butt out. I believe insurance companies should be inhibited from paying for health care except in cases of catastrophic circumstances. The health care industry has become bloated with waste and inefficiency fostered by a lack of accountability on the part of the insurance companies. They are inflationary entities that should be severly restricted. The cost of health care should be returned to whatever the market will bear. They’ll very quickly bring their prices in line or go out of business. Its a simple law of economics. We have the best health care system in the world but, no one can afford it!! That makes the system a wash in terms of what its there to do in the first place. Forcing people to participate in paying for health insurance is not the answer either. People who don’t participate do so for very sound reasons. If the stability of the economy is not managed and maintained at a predictable level, nonparticipants will never purchase insurance as insurance is widly regarded as a luxury–not a necessity. I don’t have health insurance and I won’t buy it until and unless the economy shows definite signs of improvement and prolonged stability. Additionally, I’ll need to see evidence that costs and efficiency within the medical fields are being well controlled and indexed to the cost of living in this country. The health care industy is a monster that MUST be brought to its knees financially. They MUST be made to operate within budgetary limits that are tied to the productivity of the society. Illegal aliens should have NO access to health care in this country except whatever may be needed to escort them back to their county of origin. The process of rolling back the costs of healthcare will be painful and unfortunatly for some, may inhibit the treatment they need. That’s where PREVENTATIVE medicine comes in. Too many people are being irresponsible with their health in the first place. Passifying their needs later in life is not the answer to controlling healthcare costs.
I saw the doctor’s response and I do agree that they are getting the short end of the stick. The President and the law makers should probably revise this further so that the Insurance Companies have less say when it comes down to patients and treament. and allow doctors to practice medicine again and save lives instead of condeming. They should not have to wait for an Insurance approval if there is a life and death situation. The Insurance companies should also not have the authority to tell the doctors what they should charge, they should be another method.
This isnt about healthcare. Its about Goverment control, more taxes ,rationing healthcare, none for eldery and destroy small businesses and expand government and there big companies they are purchasing! Wake up people.AMerica is the land of Liberty and Freedom.Isnt that why most people come here! Go back to your motherland if you dont like it,i am sure its much better there!
We presently have the most advanced health providers in the world..Why systematically disassemble it with over 85 % of the population perfectly happy with their health insurance. Those presently on Medicare face reductions in service and rationing of care.
If lower cost is really the goal ,what about tort reform, removing barriers to insurance compating nationally not only within the same state? I don’t believe for one second that Pelosi/ O’Bama are movitated by anything but polliticising health care by appealing to illegal immigrants and and the far left .
The Government can’t successfully run the post office, medicare or Social Security without poor service(USPS) huge cost overuns and large debt coupled with graft and corruption so why should we expect the government to run compeating health insurance in other than in the same civil service disaster format??
I strongly oppose this bill. Name one thing that government does well. Have you ever dealt with the post office? How about a change in social security? Are any of these institutions easy to deal with or even friendly? Imagine what government run health care would be – don’t imagine it – just go to Canada where they wait months to see a doctor.
I am 76 years old. I am a 24 year Prostate Cancer and 8 month Multiple Myeloma survior. I need any kind of health care reform. When I go for trearments I do not care who pays the bill as long as it does not come to me. I am a Korea War Veteran and contributed to the welfare of this country. Many like me at this stage need a health form progarm that help our needs. Those of you who are young, live this long on a fix income and have to deal with catostrophic illness, You will know what I am dealing with.
A not too perfect bill is better than none. Most of the lawmakers in Congress want to maintain the public option so not cut handouts from the Pharmaceuticals. Tommorrow I will go into the hospital for platelets and a blood tranfusions so I can start the Multiple Meloma treatment. Tha’ts Health Reform. I’m so sick of negative rhetoric that’s against health reform and human being in the US do not have a chance for a better life because they can’t get offord health insurance.
At this point in America’s history I would have to say try anything and pray for a positive result. But doing something about the crisis is definitely the answer, even if the cost are high. When a complete overhaul is done of something the expense is overwelming. Stilll, we have to try to fix a broken system!
What is taking so long to pass this healthcare bill? Is it that people don’t care about the people without healthcare or more about the cost of taking care of the poor. I am a retired Public Sch Teacher that’s now without healthcare because it’s too expense to continue on a teacher retirement income. I had to retire because of Cancer surgery/treatment and now need healthcare. Please pass this bill for the right of 96% of the citizens of this country. God bless the USA and all these people who care only about money.
I support President Obama in anything he does. He has my total trust and my total support and my total loyalty!
If this monstrosity actually passes and goes into effect, jobs will be affected and it might be in a way that we do not need with the current situation with unemployeement. Between the rates of private insurances possibly going higher and taxes that will be implimented in the form of fines and other levies, empolyers will have to make a decision just as they did when minimum wage went up. Charge more or cut someone from the line. Reform needs to happen at the administration level. Fixed prices on proceedures whether you are on insurance or paying cash. Dr.’s making a “killing” off of the sick needs to stop. Pharmacies need to back off with their high priced meds. Let us order our meds from Canada. This is where reform needs to happen.
I personally do not like the thought of government telling me that I either buy their plan or go to jail. I would go to jail before I trust the government with what is best for me or for my health.I will pick and choose my Drs. and I will choose to do what I need to do to be healthy. The government bankrupted Social Security, Medicare is going down the tubes, they have made a bigger mess of the economy with the so-called bailout, what makes us think that they can run our healthcare system and keep us healthy? Their track record is not all that great when it comes to doing anything right.
I’am a single parent not by choise but because my husband passed away in January from heart problems. I hope this dosent hurt the chance for my daughter getting Health Choice from the the State Of North Carolina. I only make around 15,000 a year and do not get paid i the summer. This past summer I had to have surgery I was very close to having Ovarian Cancer. My part of the bill is ove 4′000 dollars! With the state Insurance. It is not very helpfull to me to have to pay so much on very low income. I hope it helps lower the cost of my expence from now on.
I support President Obama’s universal health care plan and hope it is passed in the House and I hope everyone else agrees and passes it into law. I think we have had a need this for type of health care plans for some time. We get a new plan that tells us how great it will be and we have to pay a higher premium and then the coverage is less ever time. Our new policy has a higher deductible per person and 2,000 more than ever before. So I think it would help everyone and I would just as soon pay higher income tax.
What is wrong with all you people who want a health care system run by the government. What has the government ever done for you to put MONEY in your pocket? If this is such a great health care plan why then is it NOT for the people in the senate or the President ? Oh , let me guess, they are TOO GOOD for this plan. Would anyone out there eat poison meat if the government said it was the best tasting thing in the world, and they will pay your medical bill if you do get sick? IF the President would do ANYTHING to put Americans back to work and make our economy better we could and would be able to pay our own health care through our jobs.We would then have the money we need to keep America free from Communism. Also Medicare is going to go broke, then where will we all be. This PLAN is going to coast all tax payers PLENTY both in money and care. Please do not let this bill pass, you won’t no until it’s too late.
Who in their right mind could every think the government could do anything efficiently. A government mandated or governement run health care will be a disaster. Only fools would be in favor of this. If you think about it even for a little bit you can’t honestly think this is a good deal. And I am on Medicare so I have no dog in the fight. America needs to wake up and see what this congress and administration is trying to do to this country.
Gerald
Why do we try to fix a system that is not broken. Almost all people are happy with their health care. No one is denied health care in an emergency. We are going to throw away a good system for a few dissatisfied people. Only Obama and the Democrats think the system is broken. Believe me the government mandated health care is the last thing we need. What services, etc do you enjoy dealing with the government in? Exactly. They do nothing efficiently. We need less government in our lives, not more. All they do is dumb down American and try to make the weakest and most inefficient of us the norm. Something is wrong with that picture.
Gp
The U S Government has been a complete failure in operating a business, for instance the post offices, amtrak
social security fannie mae, freddy mac and the others that follow the supply of money from tax payers. All these businesses are in trouble today and could be better off as stand alone industries, The government is a send me your taxes and we will spread it like dollar bills in the wind
Anybody that supports this health care bill has not been paying attention to or reading what is actually in the bill. If you take time to read what is actually in the bill and support it you probably also believe in magical genies in bottles. Don’t take the medias word for anything. Do your homework and do some studying on the bill first hand. I guarantee if you are a working person instead of someone sitting around depending on government handouts which by the way via taxes the working person provides, you will definately not support the bill. By all means if you haven’t studied history enough to realize that socialism has never or ever will work. Or if you are one of the social parasites taking advantage of those of us who aren’t lazy and have guts enough to make our own way you will probably support this travesty on the future citizens of this once but not for long at this rate great country..
The question of whether health care reform is needed or not is NOT the question. The question is, according to the Constitution, who’s right/responsibility is it to do so, the Federal or State governments? My health care does NOT involve defense or interstate commerce as defined under the Constitution. (Keep in mind that the FOUNDING FATHERS were fairly simple men by today’s standards. Their language was pretty straightforward, unlike lawyers today.)
Health care and insurance are contracts between two individual entities, sometimes two individuals persons, sometimes a person and a company. If you READ the Constitution, you will see that MANY things in today’s Federal laws are not the rightful domain of the Federal government, therefore, according to the Tenth Amendment, these things are the responsibilities of the individual States to take care of the Citizens! Are your State representatives doing their jobs? Or are they just passing off their duty to the Federal level representatives who don’t have the legal authority to handle this?
Remember the Constitution is essentially a contract between the States to hire a group of people to handle things that involve the EXTERNAL relationships of the States collectively.
Thanks for the space and time to vent!
I agree with Dr. Neviaser 100%! I really like the idea of just paying for the 18m people who don’t have insurance and calling it a day. This bill can not be passed.
When has government ever effeciently ran any program. There are programs already in place for people who can’t afford insurance.at no cost to them. Look at the way Medicare and Social Security is over it’s head in debt. Anyone in the Senate or House of Representative should have to sign up for the same health care. You know they would never agree to! Look at the other countrys that have National Health care where people have to wait on a long line to get medical care. People from those countrys come here to get the medical treatment they need because they have serious diseases that need treatment now and not whenever a doctor or tests they need are available.
I AM VERY HAPPY ABOUT THE HOUSE PASSING THE BILL OF UNIVERSAL HEALTH REFORM I WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY THAT HAD ANY AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE DECIDEING OF SUCH EXCELLENT CHOICE, AND I PRAY THAT THE SENATE FOLLOWS SUIT. MYSELF AND FAMILY SO NEED THEM TO. THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS STAFF, AND SPECIAL THANKS TO THAT ONE REPUBLICAN THAT ADDED HIS VOTE. (JUST BECAUSE HE COULD OF BEEN AS SELFISH AS THE REST AND NOT BEEN APART OF THIS REFORM, SO I THANK THAT PERSON)
I am against the National Health Care plan. As a senior citizen I have seen first hand how government contolled programs have ruined our country. I do not believe that any where in our constitution it states that people are entilted to free health care. When wiill the left wing radicals wake up and realize that nothing in this world is free. My parents were far from rich and I did without a liot of things when I was growing up however my parents taught us that with hard work and sacrifice we could overcome provery and become anything we set our heart out to be. My brothers and I are living prof of it. After a devastating divorce I found myself raising three small children. After I started teaching it would make me sick to see families who received free benefits from the government and did nothing but sit on their lazy ass!!! I have seen far too many cases of children who do receive free lunch throw good luches away because they don’t like the lunches because they consist of healty foods rather than the junk food they are accustom to. I have see people who are not even citizens of the United states receive more assiistance than a HARD WORKING family where the father is working 2 jobs to make ends meet. I have seen young drug addicts who receive a social security check each month . I have seen young teens have child after child after child all by different men and who have never worked a day in their life but have free housing free food stamps and free clothing vouchers for their children. What ever happened to consequences and being responsible for your own life rather than depending upon the government to take care of you.
Instead of passing this type of program why don’t we regulate the cost of the services rendered by Drs and Hospital as it is done with medicare?
This is another step toward a socialist run health system – it is going to cost us more money, give us less coverage and limit the doctors we will be able to see. It is simply going against everything this nation has stood for for over 200 years. The politicians will get richer and the poor will simply continue to be poor – except the middle class will once again pick up the tab. This nation is moving toward a socialist goverment with you-know-who at the top. People had better give more thought to this program – it appears good on the surface, but if the surface is removed the true reason for this is more government control of medical care. We had best do our best to get this voted down in the Senate – if not we will be the one’s paying the tab. And I assure you, our goverment? doesn’t care one way or the other – because they dont’ have too as long as they contol this nation. Nothing in life is free and neither will this travesty of health coverage – in the end it will cost us more than we know.
I pray the senate has the GUTS to pass Health Care …That we put in on our money In God We Trust…then trust in him as you say you do and Provide for the American people Health Care for ALL. STOP being a SLAVE to the insurance companies…for FEAR they wouldn’t help you get re-elect. I have the resolve to do what you know is right,,,and pass health care,,,
P.S. We will pay for a war that does not heal our NATION….Healthcare can heal….just what do you we look like to the rest of the world…when we say…IN GOD WE Trust..do we?
I strongly disagree. I believe the President is about passing new legistration to be about the already wealth/upper class people. The working class people are always the ones that get screwed. Our world about how and how much a person can cheat another person with no regards to the outcome. I bet 95% of the people working government officials couldn’t look GOD in the FACE, and say they believe he gave them their abilities, and they used them to serve Gods will, and not their own agenda. Without God, our country will be much like Iran and foreign countries hating and killing each other more and more. We almost there now.
It will put a financial burden on my business and may force us to close if the cost get out of control.
Happy
We need a government sponsored public option now if only for all of those of us who are unemployed, self-employed or who have no insurance through work. If the cost is spread out over all age groups, the costs will be contained and the cost of Medicaid will decrease. Also, the competition from the public option will drive the cost of private insurance down benefitting everyone.
Those lucky enough to have good insurance coverage (including Republican Representatives and Senators) should not turn their backs on their fellow citizens. Medicare has improved and saved the lives of millions of Americans. A public option will do that for younger Americans. Without it, premature death and bankruptcies will continue to escalate and businesses will suffer the crushing expense of medical premiums.
I believe the government will damage the healtcare system we have, the best in the world. I have lived over seas and know how bad social medicine can be and locally Canada, what a joke their servises are, cheep but must stand in que for your turn and you may not get the need care. In Germany if you have a handicap and can not serve socity, you may not get any treatment, only deathbed.
As an American, we dont need dictator.
Get you head on right, carry your own weight and say ABSOLUTLY NO to social medicine.
Stop following idiots who think Castro and Mao are heros
I fully support the health care bill
I would be great to think that one can be a productive contributor in our society at any age. As a registred nurse i feel that getting back in to that field atmy age(56) ie next to impossible. Having been away for many years I would need to get caught up on a lot of changes that have taken place. I would be willing to explore the possibility if I thought there might be a chance that an institution would take the time to help me find fit for my skills. But as things are today that seems impossible.
I have also done some teaching in Spanish and have a BA in the subject, however, a Masters degree is now required for the level at which I would want to teach Spanish and so I’m in the process of evaluating the cost effectiveness plust the age factor in such an investment.
I am somewhat frustrated with the current crossroads at which I find myself. Anything that the President’s bill can do to make it more feasible that I can put my skills to productive and profitable use would be greatly welcomed.
However, my greatest desire to see this bill through is the memory of the sense of absolute relief on the faces of patients who came to clinics in pain but anxious because they had no insurance and felt they had no right to seek medical care. When they were told that a lack insurance was not a deterrance to medical care they were always overwhelmed. One need not be in the medical field to realize the two sad but natural consequences to these patient’s concerns; one of course is the delay in seeking the needed care, the second is the fact that the anxiety they experience contributed to exacerbating there already compromised health condition. These were working class citizens whose plight we hear of often. Unfortunately, until we are ready to accept the fact that good, affordable healthcare is not only good for the individual’s self esteem as well as his or her overall good health, but that it also is also good for the health of the economy of our Nation we may not see the support for the President’s plan.
Not passing this health reform may be seen by the Republicans as a way to rebuff the President of the United States of America. They, unfortunately, are blind to the grave consequence of failure to the passage of this reform, which in essence would be a further deterioration of the economic viability of our Nation over time.
Capitalism for the Poor and Socialism for the Rich! That sort of thinking should not define America, and a sane “middle of the road” approach will put an end to simple minded thinking like “Capitalism is God” and “Socialism is the Devil.”
Put this in perspective: The Health Care Reform Bill is less expensive than the corporate bailouts. And it provides an opportunity to place more emphasis on prevention rather than cures. And it can lead to tremendous savings by putting a lid on the crimes of fraudulent claimers, and the rampant greed of unscrupulous doctors and litigious lawyers.
I don’t believe that this country can create an insurance systam is functional and still affordable.
Our founding fathers did not establish the government for the purpose of providing health care. If the government gets its fingers in our health care system it will have made one more step toward the white house goal of socialism. The more control the government gets over our lives the more difficult and cumbersome the government will be and the more difficult and cumbersome our lives will be. The health care bill is contrary to free enterprise and capitalism. How in the world can we even propose such a thing when the evidence from the countries that have socialized health care is so overwhelmingly convincing that it is not efficient and the service provided is sub-standard when compared our system—no matter what the socialists say. It’s a no-brainer.
Our ancestors fought and died for freedom. Are we willing to give it up for what we think will be easy and convenient?
If anyone is foolish enough to believe that private companies should be trusted more than the government when it comes to health care, they should get their insurance from a new insurance company headed by the former executives of Enron and WorldCom
