Grammy Award-Winning Musician Goes Back to College to Pursue Music Degree
Wyclef Jean, who is a singer/songwriter/producer as well as the former member of The Fugees and a Grammy award winner, recently announced his plans to enroll in Berklee college in order to pursue a degree in music. Why would someone who has been awarded with one of the highest achievements in music want to go to college? Quite simply, he says he believes in education.

As part of his announcement, Jean also stated that he plans to work closely with Rev. Al Sharpton so he can more effectively stress the importance of education to children.
“I am enrolling in Berklee College in Boston to get my bachelor’s degree in music,” Jean said at the recent Congressional Black Caucus Phoenix Awards Dinner in Washington, DC. “That’s how important education is to me. I plan to work with Rev. Al Sharpton because that’s how important stressing the importance of education to children is to me.”
At the dinner, Jean received the George Collins Award for Community Service because of the work he performed as a Goodwill Ambassador to Haiti. Other reward recipients at the dinner included:
· Ambassador Susan R. Rise – recipient of the Charles C. Diggs Award
· The Honorable Calvin Smyre – recipient of the CBCF Chair’s Award
· Danny Glover – recipient of the CBC Chair’s Award
· The late Honorable Edward M. Kennedy – recipient of the George Thomas “Mickey” Leland Award
· Sheryl Lee Ralph – recipient of the CBCF Chair’s Award
