Hasbro Announces Modern Version of Monopoly

Hasbro has announced a new design for its 75th anniversary Monopoly edition. The modern makeover is to include changing the board to a slick, round design as well as including an ATM and debit card rather than the traditional paper money. The traditional game tokens are also being replaced with clear plastic representations, while clips of popular song’s such as Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” and Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” will play after players take certain actions.

Monopoly isn’t the first game to get a redesign. Scrabble underwent some modernization changes for its 60th anniversary celebration and Trivial Pursuit has seen a similar facelift. Monopoly has also been issued in a number of thematic designs, but these new changes will certainly appeal to techies and any one else who enjoys gizmos and gadgets.

Some of the game’s changes, however, may be a bit upsetting to diehard fans. For example, rather than collecting $200 when passing “Go,” players will now collect $2 million every time they complete a circuit around the board. On the other hand, the fact that the game includes an electronic banking version, helps to alleviate one of the most common complaints of players: other players swiping cash from the bank when no one is looking.

The revamped version of the popular game is slated to hit store shelves this fall.
