What is a fashion designer?
If you have an eye for fashion and are bursting with creativity, a fast-paced career in the fashion
world could be the perfect job for you. Before you get
started, however, it is important to earn a Fashion Design
degree at a quality Fashion school!
What do fashion designers do?
Fashion designers generally work with manufacturing
companies, wholesalers and design firms. Those who
find their successful niche can go on to be self
-employed and start their own clothing line.
Fashion designers are responsible for:
- Sketching fashion ideas
- Creating accessory designs
- Determining pricing
- Selecting and cutting fabric
- Researching new styles
- Tailoring clothing
- Modifying finished product
People in the fashion industry have to research
various age groups, genders and socioeconomic statuses
to identify their target audience for the designs
and styles they want to work with. Designers often
travel extensively to do their fashion research and
learn about new trends in other countries. They may also
get the chance to arrange their own fashion shows.
Although fashion is a creative expression, designers
must be able to adapt to peoples needs and what is
popular to be able to be successful in a mass market.
