Jobs with a degree in trades

Due to new construction, advances in technology, renovation of older buildings and an increasing population, a stable work environment for trade careers has been created.

Here’s a quick look at some jobs you can get with a degree in trades

Tile and marble setters apply hard tile and marble to floors, walls, ceilings, countertops and roof decks. Their responsibilities include examining the materials pattern, checking the quantity and determining where they will cut the tile and marble in order to fit the design in the space that’s available. Tile and marble setters are also responsible for studying blueprints and examining surface to determine the best materials to be used.

HVAC technicians install and repair heating, central air conditioning or refrigeration systems. They troubleshoot HVAC units including their electronic and mechanical components. HVAC technicians may work in a variety of business types including HVAC manufacturers, privately owned contractors or institutional buildings. Respiratory precautions must be taken because of exposure to dust, refrigeration chemicals and possibly asbestos in older buildings.

Roofers install, re-roof and repair roofs made of tar, asphalt or gravel. Because of the skill involved they must have extensive knowledge of types of roofing materials such as rubber, metal, slate, fiberglass, wood and tile shingles. Additionally, roofers waterproof and damp-proof walls, floors, foundations and basements. Replacement roofing on existing buildings makes up the majority of work for roofers.
